This is just my theory and opinion but there are many industry people who feel the same. The conditions are favorable, the world has never lost a Michael Jackson in the modern era and from the looks of the trailer, it looks like it's going to be a masterpiece.

From the looks of the movie trailer which premiered on the MTV VMA’s September 13, 2009, Sony has put their heart and soul along with their unlimited resources into creating what appears to be an incredible, epic documentary and very intimate look at the beloved King of Pop’s great legacy. If the film is just half as good as the trailer, an Oscar win is all but guaranteed and most likely assured.

Sony has pulled out all the stops in tastefully capturing the drama and creative energy of Michael’s artistic process with the majority of the film capturing his last month on Earth. We will finally have a chance to witness and observe an untainted look at a true master in preparation for what would have been the biggest come-back in entertainment history.

As a humanitarian for life, the thing I like the most is that Sony is doing this for all the right reasons and are actually ear-marking portions of the proceeds generated by the film and its product line to charity on behalf of and in partnership with the Michael Jackson Family Trust and it's mission.
